How Do Ghostwriters Earn Money?

December 31, 2010 by

A writer who is paid to write articles, books, reports, stories, website material or other content which is officially credited to another person is called a ghostwriter. Political leaders, celebrities, website owners, and executives often hire ghostwriters to draft or edit their written material.

In music, ghostwriters are used in classical music, film score composition, and popular music such as top 40, country, and hip-hop. Sometimes the author acknowledges the writing services of the ghostwriters.

How Does Ghostwriting Work?

The division of work between the ghostwriter and the credited author varies a great deal. In some cases, the ghostwriter is hired to polish and edit a rough draft or a mostly completed manuscript. In this case, the outline, ideas and much of the language in the finished book or article are those of the credited author.

In other cases, a ghostwriter does most of the writing, using concepts and stories provided by the credited author. In this case, a ghostwriter will do extensive research on the credited author or their subject area of expertise. Seldom does a ghostwriter compile a complete proejct with no input at all from the credited author; at a minimum, the credited author usually jots down a basic framework of ideas at the outset or provides comments on the ghostwriter’s final draft.

For an autobiography, a ghostwriter will interview the credited author, their colleagues, and family members, and find interviews, articles, and video footage about the credited author or their work. For other types of nonfiction books or articles, a ghostwriter will interview the credited author and review previous speeches, articles, and interviews with the credited author, to assimilate his or her arguments and points of view.

Ghostwriters are hired for numerous reasons. As is often the case, public figures and celebrities cannot possibly have the time or writing skills to write a “how to” book or autobiography. Even if a celebrity or public figure has the writing skills to pen a short article, they may not know how to structure and edit a several-hundred page book so that it is captivating and well-paced. In other cases, publishers use ghostwriters to increase the number of books that can be published each year under the name of well-known, highly marketable authors.

Payment and Credit for Ghostwriters

Ghostwriters will often spend from several months to a full year researching, writing, and editing nonfiction works for a client, and they are paid either per page, with a flat fee, or a percentage of the royalties of the sales, or some combination thereof. Ghostwriters can charge anything from 10 cents to $4 per word – often more – depending on the writer’s reputation and skills, and the detail required of the article.

Sometimes the ghostwriter will receive partial credit on a book, signified by the phrase “with…” or “as told to…” on the cover. Credit for the ghostwriter may also be provided as a “thanks” in a foreword or introduction. Sometimes the ghostwriter of nonfiction books will be credited as a “research assistant” or “contributor”. In other cases, the ghostwriter receives no official credit for writing a book or article; in cases where the credited author or the publisher or both wish to conceal the ghostwriter’s role, the ghostwriter may be asked to sign a nondisclosure contract that forbids him or her from revealing his or her ghostwriting role.

Types of Ghostwriting

Whatever the genre of writing being published, there is the opportunity for the work to be ghostwritten. These include:

* Non-Fiction

* Fiction

* Political

* Medical

* Blogs

* Academic

Writers who have their own websites are in the box seat to earn a good living from their craft. Get the facts now.

Getting Traffic to Your Domain for Free

You’ve just launched your new web site using your favorite web building tool, and then published it to the Internet. The next thing you’ll be wanting is traffic – and ultimately lots of it.

You’ve thought about using pay per click ads to get the ball rolling, but having to pay for traffic means your bank account takes a hard hit and then your profits are decreased every time a visitor clicks through to your website. How about if you could attract people to your site by using traffic generating techniques that don’t cost a thing!

Free traffic is sometimes viewed as being less effective because you don’t have the ability to fine-tune it like you can with an AdWords ad, honing in on specific keywords and phrases that are only shown to an audience that would care, but it is an avenue you should seriously consider, whether it is for your primary method of generating traffic or in addition to various other methods.

While free traffic options may not let you pick and choose the keywords in the same way as Adwords would, you can however still create content built around specific keywords and phrases so that the pages automatically get indexed for your target audience.

Take a Squidoo lens, as an example. Squidoo allows you to have multiple free accounts (so that your expertise isn’t diluted) and an unlimited number of free lenses (pages) per account. Take full advantage of this opportunity and point every lens toward your own website and you have a frenzy of feeders that funnel visitors from Squidoo to your domain through text links and banner ads!

Article marketing allows you to do the exact same thing. Write an article based on keywords and phrases you want your web site to be searched and found for and then submit it to the various high-ranking article directories for inclusion.

A press release can achieve similar results. While many online press release sites charge a nominal fee for inclusion, some have free options – and they create RSS feeds so that interested publishers can find the content that is relevant to their niche.

Forum posting can also act as a conduit between your target audience and your website domain. Join the forums for your topic and then include a link to your website in your signature file. Don’t give your web site obvious plugs in any posts you make, this is usually looked badly upon (unless it is relevant to a particular thread on the messageboard), but the inclusion of your web site url in your signature (i.e. The part that appears at the very bottom of each of your posts) is usually fine.

A side benefit of the forums is that as you participate in group discussions not only will your traffic will steadily increase, but your reputation as an authority figure to your target audience will be given a massive boost too. Don’t forget to add a link to your web site into your forum profile, too! Profiles are the perfect tool to help channel people to your domain.

The above are just a handful of ways that you can generate a stream of free traffic to your web site. Unlike paid advertising, the response will not usually be straight away, but over time, and with enough effort, you will generate a constant flow of traffic to your web site and it won’t cost you a thing.

Three Easy Ways To Launch Your Own Website

December 27, 2010 by

Many people today have various presences online. Facebook pages, maybe an account on YouTube, a twitter account or two. It can be exciting to collect followers, and friends and check your stats periodically. However, some want a little bit more. Some people want to publish material without having to confine themselves to the restrictions of these avenues.

If you’re ready to take the next step, and start your own website on your own domain, then this article is for you. There are plenty of software packages out there, some free, and some paid, that make it easier than ever to set up and publish your own site. Once you finish reading this article, you’ll be able to set up your own website within an hour or so.

Far and away, WordPress it the most popular. This is an open source platform, which means many different people contribute to creating it. It started out as a simple blogging platform, but has evolved to something much more. You can create huge, multi media sites with just a few clicks. There is plenty of support everywhere on the Internet, and there are so many options that you can customize it any way you please. The best part is that it’s free, and you can install it onto your website with about two mouse clicks. All that you need to do next is create some content, and publish it.

Joomla is another option. This, like WordPress, is a free, open source solution that is as easy to install on your website as WordPress. You can fully customize it, which allows you to make pretty much any website you can imagine. There are loads of templates available, both free and premium, which means that there’s no limit to what you can create. And there are plenty of forums offering tips and support in case you have any questions.

Another popular package is XSitePro. This is not a free software, and it’s not open source, but it is very powerful. It doesn’t require any programming skills, so you can learn to use it rather quickly. It has a whole host of functions that make creating and managing a few sites very easy. One of the hassles of maintaining several websites is having to update them on a regular basis. With XSitePro, updating is quick and painless. They have quite an extensive support section on their forum. The only drawback is that this is a little bit expensive. If you are just starting out, WordPress or Joomla would probably be your best bet.

A few people may feel slightly overwhelmed when thinking about publishing their site for the first time, but there’s no need. Once you upload your first site, and realize how easy it is, you’ll want to make another, and another. With these simple programs, you can have your site uploaded and published within a matter of minutes. It’s easy, fast, and fun. Once you start, you’ll never look back.

To find the best content management web tools, head on over to the content management web site today.

Getting the Best From Your Video Productions

December 26, 2010 by

Copyright (c) 2008 Paul Smithson

If you are producing videos for the purpose of getting traffic and conversions to your website, you’re not alone. Thousands of people are doing the same thing, so it’s very easy to get lost in the millions and millions of videos that are available on the various video sharing websites.

Often it’s hard to get lots of views to your videos, because it’s the videos with the most views and comments that typically show up at the top in the search results on the video sharing sites, and those are also the videos that get promoted in the related results when someone watches a video. So how do they get those views in the first place?

The most common way videos get a large number of views is through word of mouth. Viral marketing is alive and well in the video sharing world. When people see a video they like, they tend to tell their friends about it. If the video is really good, it gets passed around and around and it goes viral.

Unfortunately this viral feeding frenzy usually only happens to videos that are really off-the-wall. A celebrity doing something shocking, someone being humiliated in public, or a really stupid criminal could have their videos go viral pretty easily. A video about trout fishing or about making money online has less chance of going viral.

In this case, you have to find a way to inflate the views yourself. No, I’m not saying you should use some kind of bot to artificially inflate your views! That’s a great way to get banned. Luckily, there are loads of ways to get views to your videos without being dishonest.

First of all, you should get everyone you know to visit your videos. Post a link to every video that you create on your own blog. Send a link to your email list. Put a link in your forum signature. Use social bookmarking to drive traffic.

On most networks, like YouTube, you can post responses to video’s. If you find a video in your niche that is already popular, you can post your video as a response to their video. This will mean you get a link from their video’s page. Keep in mind that some networks require these responses to be approved by the original poster.

In the description of every video you post, you should ask viewers to subscribe to your channel if they enjoyed your video. Most video sharing sites have a way for people to subscribe to see more of your videos so don’t forget to ask people to sign up. The more people you have subscribed to your channel, the more people you’ll potentially have visit every video you make later.

Comments are also a vital element to popularity on many sites. Comments are especially important on YouTube, for example. Always ask people to comment in your description, and at the end of the video itself, if it is possible.

The wonderful thing is that the effort you put in will be rewarded many times over. As the number of views of your video increases the more likely it will be to appear in the search results and other listings, which in turn means yet more people will stumble upon it, and that will give another boost to the number of views and who knows, before you know it, your trout fishing video might just end up going viral.

Updating Your Writing Website – Good Content is the Key

December 25, 2010 by

For those aspiring writers who have found out how easy it is to build their own website – you now possess one of the most valuable assets to your writing career.

Gee, you could have received some good work proposals already, or have some contracts on the horizon.

The topic to address now is how important it is for a writer’s website to be updated regularly.

First, a bit about the word ‘regularly’ – this does not mean everyday! Unless you’ve been writing full time for the past ten years, you won’t have enough quality material to keep your website updated with fresh content so often.

Instead, try to update your website every couple weeks, at the least every month. Why? It all comes down to the fact that the search engines love fresh, quality content, and the same applies to writing.

Even if when you first build your site you have a great deal of material, it is better to upload pages gradually – the search engines will recognize this as the addition of fresh content.

The top website building software allows you to put your content up at one time, but schedule the release date of each page! A great tool.

If a potential client goes to your website and sees that it hasn’t been updated in a long time, then that client will start to wonder, “What has this person been doing? Are they still up to the work or have they become complacent?” What you want that potential client to think every time that they visit your site is that you are a hard-worker who is continually producing quality material.

In going about your site update, there a several important things to keep in mind.

First of all, if your work gets accepted for publication, make sure to mention it. Once you have confirmation from the publisher, put it up there, even if you don’t have a fixed date.

Second, make sure to keep your samples fresh. If current affairs is your specialty, don’t have too many work examples from years ago. Keep it up to date so that readers will relate to it. Of course, if that older work netted you some sort of prize or award, the time restriction doesn’t apply. In fact, work of yours that has won recognition should be highlighted on the first page of the website.

One last thing, if you are devoted to keeping your site up to date, that will keep you writing material even during slow periods. This will keep your skills sharp and that is always a good thing.

In these uncertain economic times, finding ways to work from home on the internet is a windfall. If you can write, you can earn – starting now.

Affiliate Marketing- Road Map

December 23, 2010 by

To succeed at internet marketing you need a growing network of websites. These sites will feed each other traffic, pre-sell affiliate programs, generate adsense revenue, and grow your opt-in e-mail lists.

There are several ways for you to do this, but they all require a basic skill set. I’m assuming you know the basics of hosting, getting a website, and creating one. If you have no idea how to do any of this, it isn’t that hard.

I will be showing you some tools later on that let you create websites and actually “SEE” what you are doing as you do it. So don’t worry, if you are not quite sure how to put up your own website, get a hosting account and all that other “scary” stuff you: it is really quite easy, and you will learn about it in this guide…

Get a reseller or Bulk Hosting account

The first step in your Blue Print should be getting your first website. Make this one a learning experience, but you should also set things up so you have room to grow NOW. Why would you pay 20 bucks to host a website when you can host 50 websites for just a few dollars more?

There are many hosting companies that offer bulk hosting or reseller accounts. Hostgator, Towerhost, and many others. Many of them such as Towerhost have training videos to help you get started.

http://www.towerhost.com/support/video_tutorials.php

You will need to register a domain name prior to ordering your reseller account. Again if this is new to you, don’t worry. If you simply go to http://www.godaddy.com/ you will be walked through the few easy steps of getting your very own domain name.

Once you have your first web site hosted, you will want to start laying out your site.

Website Layout

Once you have your hosting and domain name situated, it’s time to start thinking about how your first site is going to look. There are quite a number of options in regards to how to find your “look”.

• Join a template membership site – This is not a good idea unless you are comfortable editing PHOTOSHOP files. AplusTemplates is affordable and they do have a nice selection. The membership is about worthless if you can’t edit the templates or pay someone to do it for you.

• Get Xarawebstyle4 – Awesome idea with very low learning curve. I use this on a regular basis still. I also suggest getting Xarax when you buy webstyle4. XaraX is about the easiest to use vector based graphic system out there -

• Get Dreamweaver or Frontpage – Frontpage has a low learning curve, but Dreamweaver gives you a lot more room to grow. If you have any students in the household you can get the full Dreamweaver MX suite for about $199.

There are dozens of books and on-line tutorials to help you learn it as well. Michael Worthington creates great videos on Dreamweaver as well.

• Don’t want to spend the cash? Try NVU: http://www.nvu.com/ it’s free!

• Get XsitePro – you will still need a template and one of the editors above, but this product can churn out so many OPTIMIZED pages that it’s worth the investment

• Or if you just don’t have the time, energy, or skills to learn all that right now and want to get started, you might want to consider joining a program like Niche Site Special.. Niche Site Special gives you completed products and ENTIRE websites every single month. Since you have purchased this product , I have gotten Special Permission to get you a really nice discount on membership. Click on that link above, then come back here to get the discount if you like what you see. Discounted NSS membership.

• You can also hire someone to make your website – although this will get VERY expensive as you add more and more sites. A ten page targeted keyword niche site is about 300 to 1000 dollars. Services like Stmadeveloper offer affordable niche sites, but they can’t always meet demand – so you should probably have a back up.

• If you make sure your host has “FANTASTICO”, you can install with one click several content management scripts, blogs, and other scripts to help with making a website. One of the extra benefits of fantastico is that you can keep your forums, blog scripts, and contact forms updated to the latest version and NOT use a programmer.

• Last and not least you can code the sites yourself. It’s not that hard to learn HTML. There are literally thousands of on-line tutorials. Using a wysiwyg editor may be the easiest option for new learners. If you are willing to get started, but don’t want to put the funds out for expensive software, tools, or editors – go back up to the link to NVU and download it. You will need to learn a little, but NVU is a great alternative to hand coding.

Publish Your Own Website – Top Software Features

December 21, 2010 by

If you don’t update your website regularly, then it is not achieving its full potential. Search engines, and people, look for new content, and if your website is ‘stale’ it is obvious to all. By building your own website you have control over content, and can update it whenever you like.

That, of course, raises an issue. What can you do to enable a constant stream of updates to your website that will show that it is fresh and up to date? Well, on of the ways is to use an automated scheduler.

Be Prepared

Sometimes when you’re creating content for your website, you work in quick spurts. It’s possible to add a lot of content at one time. Its best though that you don’t publish all of that content at one time. First of all, regular visitors to your site may get lost in the deluge, and second, if you space out your updates, your website will always have new content.

So, how do you make sure that all of your content is spaced out at proper intervals? That automated scheduler we talked about earlier. Using a scheduler, you can set up exact publishing times for content, whether it be every day, every week, even every hour. Also, scheduled publishing can incorporate seasonal changes.

Maybe you want to have certain color schemes or graphics for one part of the year, then maybe a few snow-related graphics for winter, well you can do it with the scheduler. Or maybe you’re running an arts and crafts website and you want to have different articles and how-to instructions for different holidays. The most reliable way is to set a scheduler (and the best website building software has this feature) to ‘trickle’ your content publishing at a rate determined by you.

Easy Up

Getting your website updated, or even published for the first time, is very easy with a web design program that is designed to work with FTPs (File Transfer Protocol). Once you have a domain name, you can simply enter your username and password into the web design program and it will take care of everything for you. No tedious transfer of individual files, no getting your site up and then realizing that you forgot an image file that makes your site look horrible.

If you have the top website design program on your side, all you need to do is click your mouse to load all of the files needed to automatically upload your web pages.

The fastest way to build a website is to use templates. Go to http://www.xsiteproseo.com to find the professional templates that come free with Xsitepro2.

Attention Poetry Writers! Publish on the Web

December 20, 2010 by

A lot of things have been changed because of the Internet.

While shopping once required a visit to the store, people can now choose to do it with a click of the mouse. Corresponding with people on the other side of the world could take days or weeks, but now its done in a matter of minutes through email.

One more way that the internet has changed things is the publishing of poetry. For those interested in reading poetry, the only places available, up until a few years ago, were anthologies from the book store, literary or university journals, or listening to poetry live at an open mic venue.

Now writers of poetry have another way of promoting their work; the internet.

This concept has already been grasped by young poets. For a generation raised with computers, the publication of poetry online is a natural extension, but for those unfamiliar with using computers for anything besides email or basic browsing, the concept seems new and not as prestigious as the journals and anthologies of old.

How things used to be …..

Well, fear not. Let’s think about poetry publication and poetry writers in a historical perspective. One hundred years ago, poets would publish their work with the expectation of it only being seen by a select few.

It is not happenstance that many of the world’s most well known poets were associated with universities. The university presses were often the only way to get published.

Their poems would then be seen by a few, and if liked enough by the established powers-that-be, those poems would have a chance at wider exposure.

But now …..

Well, the internet allows young poets a publication venue that can reach all the way around the world with the click of a button – their own website!

Its easy to start your own website. Pick up some web design software and, if you picked a good program, you’ll have a website up and running within an hour or two. From there, all you have to do is start entering your poetry (or snippets thereof) onto the pages.

Getting noticed ……

There is a great number of message boards, web rings and forums on the subject of poetry. By contributing to these, and adding links to your site wherever possible, your audience will grow really quickly.

At social bookmarking sites, e.g. through Digg, Furl, Delicious etc, you will find loads of people interested in poetry who will want to share your site and poetry with other like minded people.

Anyone can publish a website – carpe diem!

Writers who have their own websites are in the box seat to earn a good living from their craft. Get the facts now.
